If you're curious about why we use this sizing technique, that's the way it's done in Ecuador.

Panama Hats are handwoven, then shaped and formed on a hat block to give them their distinctive look. The size of the hat block determines the hat size.

In other words, a specific form is required to finish the hat body to a specific size. Typically, only four forms are used: small, medium, large and extra large.

Panador Hats is the first to offer a true XXL Panama Hats. Most XXL hats are simply extra large hats that have been stretched to fit a larger head. But this doesn't work. The hat never looks right after being stretched.

We purchased special XXL hat blocks, and are having the artisans actually weave larger hat bodies for these XXL blocks.

It takes a special form to make the size XXL. Generally, it also takes a different hat body than the one used for small, medium, large and extra large.
